This vivid Okinawan-style design is katazome-shi (also known as wazome), a hand-dyed paper created using a centuries-old resist technique originally developed for kimono fabrics. A wax-like paste is applied through a stencil to block areas of ink, allowing the pattern to emerge in crisp detail once rinsed and dried. Each sheet is then hand-washed, dried, and ironed, resulting in a beautifully textured paper with a soft, natural feel.
